As an artist, I create films that navigate the fragile boundaries between human isolation, regret, and redemption. Swallowed is based on a true story of a lobster diver who was swallowed by a whale for 30 seconds off the coast of Cape Cod, MA. While in the belly of the beast all he could think about was his son. Through Calvin’s struggle inside the whale, I explore how physical entrapment mirrors emotional imprisonment, how we can drown in silence, addiction, and broken relationships until something forces us to fight for air. I am interested in using visual language, silence, and natural elements to pull the audience into the protagonist’s internal war, showing how survival can be as much about memory and love as it is about oxygen.
This is going to be a big, demanding project, hard work but one that will be incredibly powerful and successful. It involves filming on a boat and on the water, which means we need a crew that’s fully dedicated, resilient, and willing to push through challenges to make something truly great. It will be hard work, but it’s the kind of work that pays off in creating a film we can all be proud of.
