Many Happy Returns is a contained emotional drama set in an elegant Italian restaurant over the course of one evening. Gloria Washington arrives expecting a private dinner with her boyfriend, Gerald. Instead, he violates her clearly stated wish not to celebrate her birthday by ambushing her with a surprise party. What begins as an awkward social discomfort escalates into a deeper emotional confrontation about love, privacy, memory, and the burden of being seen.
