Logline

The story of the worst, yet most talented hipster couple you met fifteen years ago.

Details

The Cardboard Grapefruit Pedestrians is a one-act, approximately half-hour-long musical comedy that takes place in Portland, Oregon in 2012. It follows Shelby and George, a couple and musical duo, and the events that take place on a particularly dramatic night at their usual weekly performance at a local cafe. They embody the archetype of the white, liberal hipster that would often frequent anticapitalist, quaint social spaces such as this in the early 2010s. Between their songs, Shelby and George play out the different stages of their relationship, and three patrons act as the Greek chorus, providing even deeper insight into their tense performance and history, leading to an explosive confession of Shelby’s infidelity, a result of George’s dismissal of her needs and their mutual hypocrisy.
