Details
Detroit. 1929. The Anello’s supper club has one of the greatest singers in the entire state, Billie Lavender. One night, Gia walks in on Billie while she’s changing, she’s biologically male. Caterina pulls her out and sets the two girls back to work, hoping to resolve this later. Billie goes on stage to sing, Gia waits tables. The two try and finish their jobs, but two gangsters, Izzy and Abe, put a halt to that. They’re a part of the Purple Gang, and they want the Anello’s to serve booze. The family refuses, and the gangsters react with violence. It only stops when Billie steps in and threatens them. In the aftermath, Caterina helps Billie get undressed and comforts her. As the film ends, Billie understands that these people care about her, they’re family.
